Gene Harmon

Gene Harmon, Senior Vice President, began his business career 37 years ago with the Illinois Central Railroad, joined the Southern Pacific in 1978, and became an independent management consultant in 1985.  In early 2004, Mr. Harmon joined FSI as Senior Vice President, with the primary responsibility for Marketing. Prior to Mr. Harmon’s affiliation with FSI, he led the startup of Speedlink Corp., a multi-modal logistics system, and was an independent management consultant, focusing on transportation marketing and logistics system design and implementation.

Major accomplishments have included restructuring the State Railway of Thailand, managing and installing an ISO 9002 Quality System for a third party logistics provider, turning around a moribund transportation brokerage firm, restructuring Safeway stores, creating and implementing a major logistics service network for Crown Zellerbach while with Southern Pacific, negotiating and implementing a new logistics system for a forest products company, reducing logistics costs by 20% for a major boxboard firm on the West Coast, achieving forecasting accuracy within 2% of actual monthly carloads over a three-year period for a  Midwestern railroad, initiating and leading a task force to improve car supply reliability from 80% to 98% daily for a major railroad, and implementing a program to improve ROI from 9% to 18% for a major railroad on its 3,000-car paper fleet.

Mr. Harmon has also provided consulting services on international railway projects in Thailand and Indonesia, managed a work/study group in Australia, worked for two Class I railroads, provided a myriad of consulting services to railroads and manufacturers, and assisted in restructuring a major U.S. retailer.
